Forms for importing livestock and livestock products

Livestock being imported into Western Australia must meet import conditions and be certified as eligible for entry to ensure the State remains free from pests and diseases present in other parts of Australia.

The state of WA is free of some diseases and pests that are present in other areas of Australia. To maintain this biosecurity status, livestock being imported into WA must meet import conditions and be certified as eligible for entry. These import conditions are determined by livestock species, origin of the livestock and the WA destination of the livestock. The species-specific LB1 Health Certificate provides information on the required import conditions and declares adherence to the import conditions.

Exporting producers and veterinarians are required to make declarations on the disease status of livestock being imported into WA, and the pre- and post-entry testing and treatment protocols. Declarations from importing producers are also required before importation for post-entry testing and treatment protocols.

The LB1 health certificates specific to each livestock species and commodity are used to record this information.

Amendment to APVMA Permit PER13882 – Triclabendazole use for livestock (including horses) moving into Western Australia

The Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) has issued an extension and amendment to Permit PER13882, which supports Western Australia’s (WA) liver fluke import conditions for livestock moving into WA. This permit is now in effect.

As part of the permit extension, the APVMA has included additional content regarding the use of triclabendazole, under the permit, with a precaution statement for young or pregnant livestock and restriction of use in pregnant and lactating livestock (except for cattle) where milk is for human consumption and does not have a defined withholding period. (Cattle milk withholding periods as specified in the permit continue to apply)

Moving horses into Western Australia: new import conditions for liver fluke

Changes to the liver fluke import conditions for the movement of horses into WA came into effect from 1 December 2025.

These changes have been informed by a comprehensive liver fluke import risk analysis undertaken by DPIRD. This review was undertaken in consultation with representatives from the equine sector.

The resulting new requirements are based on current scientific evidence and will streamline the liver fluke import conditions for movement of horses into WA. All liver fluke requirements, as set out in Part 3 of the LB1 Health Certificate for the movement of horses into Western Australia, must be read and completed before importation into WA.
